I was just casually looking at this car and before I knew what was happening, I started making offers. confused24.gif

Now it's on the way to me. evilgrin.gif

1973 signal orange. 1 owner the last 29 years. Original radio..everything works except cigarette lighter and washer squiters.

This was the non original engine that I posted a question about "value". It was upgraded to a 1911 back in 01.

Dual 34ICT Weber carbs - 1911cc w/96mm pistons & liners - hydraulic lifters, (no valve clearance adjusting) - street performance cam - hardened valve seats - high volume oil pump - auxiliary oil cooler w/fan -Pertronix breakerless ignition, (never change points again) - 911 turbo tie rods - Bilstein struts & shocks - Bursch muffler - hybrid hi-torque starter - rebuilt front calipers - German rebuilt ATE rear calipers - parking brake works - virtually all rubber has been replaced - carpet replaced - vinyl on seats & back panel as well as fuzzy strip in windows replaced - original radio still works - flawless dash. Turn signal/dimmer & wiper/washer mechanisms have been replaced - factory Pedrini alloys w/correct center caps.

I will probably engage the good Dr. to refresh the 901; 1st and 2nd are sensitive on downshifting. All shifter bushings have been replaced.

I will update the VIN Registry type.gif ; it's not in there currently.

All southern car it's entire life, so very dry (I know, I know blink.gif ). 1 respray, but that was way back in 01.

Not as often, but don't think you never have to touch them. They still need to be checked periodically.

True; I just pasted in the description from the seller. I am assuming 25% of what I believe to be perfect actually needs work and some love. lol-2.gif

But since nothing has been touched since 01, I'm hopeful it is as solid as it appears.

Not as often, but don't think you never have to touch them. They still need to be checked periodically.

With those floor mats check to see if a relief cut has been made so the gas pedal stop sticks thru. Had those in a car, no top end, made the cut and there was much improvement.

Your car & my car were possibly built on the same day - my VIN is 4732915447 - there is a photo in the registry. However, your engine bay is very different, as is your cockpit. Mine are bog standard for a 2.0l with a centre console.

Post some pics of your engine bay and interior if you have them. I would like to see the differences, as I think mine is pretty stock.

Photos of interior & engine bay of my 914. That's not rust on the firewall. Its old adhesive which I'm gradually removing. (Bloody hard work!).

aktion035.gif nice interior. I am debating with myself on the steering wheel. I like originality but I love the Momo steering wheels. Looks better IMHO.

BTW, i just found out my car is actually Phoenix Red, shades.gif not signal orange. That color looks orange to me. Photos don't show it well.

I am really happy about that. I have always liked the Phoenix Red and I have seen fewer of them than Signal Orange.

I prefer the Momo wheel. It also gives a bit more room for entry & exit which I need at my age!. Love the car - took it out for a 30 mile drive today & drove it like I stole it - the first time that I've had the confidence to do that. Very satisfying!

Hats off to owners of 914s who keep such good records. I just got the car delivered today. Put on new tires and then started looking it over, including the paperwork.

Every record from day one in a huge folder, along with original owners booklet and "leather like" folder which even has the original lady owner from Dallas "service card". Click to view attachment Click to view attachment

You get first dibs Mike. This PO reminds me of your passion with the 914.

The level of care and detail is just great to see from this owner of 26 years.

He sent a dozen boxes of spare parts, extras, replaced parts, etc. He labeled everything. He even sent a note saying the car only has had one kind of oil for 26 years and he outlined what it was.

The job the PO did and the care he showed is amazing and makes me want to step up. I only wish I had this dedication.

Such a great experience buying a car like this from a guy like that. You know he was in love with the car. wub.gif

Maybe try spraying a small spot with brake parts cleaner to see if it loosens it? Don't know if it would hurt the paint?

Have you tried naphtha? That stuff works wonders on glue material. I used it on my 911 to remove glue from the engine insulation pad.

Thanks for your tips. Anything must be better than what I'm using at the moment - Evostick Adhesive Remover. This adhesive is really baked on from the engine heat. If I fit new sound deadening I think I'll secure it with Velcro instead of glue.
