Full Version: Any idea what this is?
behind the driver's seat. there's the seatbelt wires, but also a black plug that looks like it should be hooked to something big. lots of wires going nowhere.
That's for the rust control unit. Most cars never got one. 
Seat belt interlock buzzer. Used on 74-76

cool. i don't really care about the seatbelt warning stuff at all. i've been wondering where to find some power for a hidden antenna "Requires a switched 12-volt power source" and/or a subwoofer. seems to be a nice bundle of wires already going to the front trunk for the a/c.

ahh. well there's one that plugs into the lighter and has usb ports. i'll just have to get that one.

Did you mean passenger seat? (That's where the seatbelt relay junk is.)
You can cut all that out, join the big yellow and forget about the junk. Although it's a good idea to join all the brown wires because you could have some weird ground problems if you don't.

On a street car, i would highly advise *against* cutting any wires at all.

well, the wires are long enough that they could easily go behind the passenger's seat. but i found 'em behind the driver's.
Respect Andy. But if they go nowhere to anything in use, it doesn't matter. But this is exactly why I mentioned joining the ground wires, which is the one possible thing that can cause trouble.

BTW, I don't recommend this in general. Don't hack your wiring. But that cluster fuck under the passenger seat is an exception. It's caused way more problems than it's worth.

well i know less about wiring and electricity than i do about cars, so that's very little. i've put in a car stereo before and can change oil and spark plugs, but that's about it. hoping to learn a little from the 914 without breaking anything. i have an electrician cousin nearby who might be bored enough to help me out. i see a 914 modern fuse box upgrade on ebay. is that worth messing with?

Well then don't do any cutting. There are a couple great upgrades for the fuse panel to modern blades. One is Jwest. Can't remember the other off the top of my head. Search will turn it up. What's the brand on the ebay one you saw?
