Thank God I was able to pull out an engine of my newly acquired 71 1.7 megasquirt and I was able to do it for less than 4 hrs. From clearing all electrical lines, fuel lines, cables, linkage and other parts before dropping the engine to a dolly.

I hope I can install it back after fixing the rear suspension console with the help of a good fellow 914world member who is going to do the welding job.

Thanks and I hope I did the proper labeling of the wirings specially it is a megasquirt and the previous owner is the one who installed it. I'm very much familiar with my Ljet on my 75 but not on this and not even original djet.

Rich - Is there a good thread somewhere here for reinstalling and dealing with "the rest," as you call it? I've successfully dropped an engine (referencing the many threads that address that part) but I haven't done the reverse, and I will need to sometime soon. I haven't found a good step-by-step thread yet. Or is it pretty straightforward conceptually and just time-consuming hooking everything back up? Looking to identify the "gotchas" I guess...

I just dropped and re-installed my engine for the first time too, and I also have MegaSquirt although I havent reconnected that part yet (doing that this week) and wiring on my wasnt nearly the mess that yours look to be.

Feel free to shoot me any questions. Odd that my engine went back in alot easier than it came out, must have got lucky..

My method is this.
I put them back in with no heat exchangers or muffler attached.
Once it's bolted in, I stay under the car and do the axles, heat exchangers, muffler, starter, shifter, wiring, cables and stay on my back till the underside is done.

I then go up and go to either the passenger side, do everything, and then drivers side and do everything.

That is how I do it to make sure I do not miss anything.

Yes my wirings are really a mess but I got like that from the previous owner who installed it but it is a good running engine with 1 try to starting the engine and the idle goes to the righr idle around 800 to 900 immediately upon start. Well I started re taping them together those wirings. I hope it will look cleaner when I install the engine. And hoping the engine will start.

Im in the same boat. Megasquirt is getting hooked up tonight and then praying she starts. I've had two dreams already about getting her out on the road to discover that I never put any oil back in it, so I have to remember that too.
My previous owner did a much neater job with the wires, but seemed to have cut corners in other areas. (Manifold and exhaust gaskets? who needs em?)
