Hello everyone,im new to the forum and in Colorado springs,i purchased a 73 ,914 in the last 4 months. Its a project car and i want it to be my summer daily driver so im doing alot of work on it this winter.when i got it ,it did not run i got it to start after rebuilding the carbs(i guess i should tell you it has twin 40 weber carbs) only to find out that #4 cylinder held no presure.the intake valve was bent and would not close all the way,So no little task to pull engine and trans have heads machined and valve done and finally to get it back in after a few problems. But its in and now i cant get the gas pedal to work when i push it in it stays down or comes up very slow.ive checked the carb linkage and with the spring on it works fine.I checked down by pedale to see if anything is stuck i cant see anything?? im a bit lost i need some idea and its tough to find someone here whos can work on these cars.and on a side note i need to install the rear window what seals do i need pelican parts does not show one thanks.

If it worked before, you may have either wrapped the cable around the clutch cable, or you may have not hooked up the tranny ground strap and the acellerator cable was used as ground and may have melted.

Remove the cable from the throttle linkage, see if the linkage works fine without the cable attached.
If it does work, you may need to replace or reroute the cable.

It could be the pedal hinge.
Test that by pulling the pedal off the pushrod connecting it to the throttle bellcrank on the cluster.

While the pedal is off the linkage, test the bellcrank for free movement.
Old nylon bushings may swell and grip the pivot shaft.
The cure for that is a brass pedal bushing set.

To test the throttle cable, disconnect the throttle cable from the carb linkage.
Hold the end of the cable while a helper presses on the gas pedal.
You should be able to pull it back up easily when your helper releases the pedal.

I agree with chris. Likely the pedals need to be rebuilt and you can do this job yourself easily

Thankyou all for the ideas I will try them the only other thing I can think of is the gear shifter and plate was removed also at the same time could it be that the cable got punched there I will look there to. Thanks I will post pics or car soon.
