I bought the OEM improved rear Targa seal with the fuzzy strip in June and just now getting around to installing it. My question is what do you do with metal trim on the sides where the original has them molded in? My car is a 72 I'm guessing you'll need to fab up two metal strips. Has anyone done a write up on this? I did a search and checked the 914 rubber site but found nothing.

each one I have done had the side pieces that could be separated from the seal.

I was able to cut out the metal bracket from original seal then used good metal cutters to trim (you can see marker line in picture) and install on new seal. Nothing glued, just screwed in.

Note: This is an earlier seal from 914Rubber. I know he improved his later seals but this one works great for me. Solved the roof rattles!

The top was Line-X instead of painting.

The OEM seal has a slit that allows the plate to be glued to the back. You could find a small strip of thin gauge metal and drill out like the one you have to sandwich the rubber between. Take a little black caulking to glue the back on and you have something pretty dang close to OEM.

I cut the old rubber away from the whole plate, but then ended up trimming the plate to the size your looking at doing and mounted it back on top of the new 914Rubber seal to mesh with the rear plates. It's not real pretty but seems be workable.

I pulled out the metal strip from the original. I cut a slit in the new seal so the metal could slip in. Note: The fuzzy seal along the back of the top was right near the edge. I had to trim some of the flat rubber off to fit it the best I could.
