I am leaking transmission fluid out of the shift console on a side shifter.
I have a spare transmission and would like to change the 2 seals on the spare console
then do a swap.
Would this be a mistake? Do the shift console parts wear with the rest of the transmission
forming a custom fit?

I think you should be fine. If wrong, then there might be a minor shifter adjustment. I see no problem in what you are doing

No, the console parts should not wear in to the shifter parts. Swapping like that should be plug-and-play.
