I have a stock chrome '72 side mirror that I want to add to the passenger side ( so I can see the whackos in the SUV's coming). I see lots of after market add ons. Has any one added a stock mirror and what did you use for backing inside the door?

There are captive nuts welded inside the passenger door for mounting a mirror. Try this thread for a few comments:

Great stuff. This is going to be a snap if I don't run the drill down the side of the door or drill out the nuts. Thank you all. This kind of support is a part of what makes owning a 914 fun.

They have them on eBay all the time...Here too. Check the Classifieds.

I'm going back and forth over adding those aftermarket 'California' mirrors, or getting another one of these.
