it would be interesting to ask him what the color code is on the tag. maybe it WAS tangerine at some point and he just assumes it still is? far fetched but you never know.

as far as I know there is nothing like a "4-cyl rear bumper"

the 1970 rear bumper looked a little different (sharp edges at the license plate area), no matter if on a 4 or 6 cyl

the bumper on this car was used from '71 to '74

could anybody explain to me what's a "4cyl re-view mirror" ???????? wacko.gif blink.gif
vortrex
complete with "miami style" interior. biggrin.gif

got more pics, looks to be a nice car. has an amco console. owner said it is signal orange and was painted prior to '98. did not respond to my request for the color code.

EDIT: reread my email from him, he says the porsche certificate of authenticity has it listed as signal orange. wonder why he said tangerine in the ad? wacko.gif

All 1970-71 914-6 re-view mirrors are smaller than those found on a 4cyl model.
The exception is the 1972 914-6 models which also had the ignition key on the steering column like the 4cyl and the wider re-view mirror.

The day I learn how to up load photos I will gladly share them with you, until then you will have to forgive me for my ignorance in loading photos .

Thanks

are you sure about this?

I knew that the mirror size and the angle was modified by 1972, but for all 914 - no matter if 4 or 6 cyl

this is was B. Johnson tells us in his "Restorer's Guide to Authenticity"

The size was narrower from 1970-71 on all models.
YES you are correct here.
The orange 914-6 in the photos from Miami indicates it's a 71 model ( Unless I read it wrong)and it also has the rear window defroster with a 72 re-view mirror, as seen mostly on 72 and up.

I brought in a 914-6 from Germany a few years ago Chassis 9142430259, It had the M471 packaged, re-window defroster.
The original engine was changed out for 2.7RS. The Previous owner was Udo Frey of Germany, whom now races a 70 914-6 in the Young timer trophy.

Thanks

I'm sure you know that 9142430259 is the VIN before last.
Isn't that a geminiblue factory original M471??
Well, I'd love to see pics from that car wub.gif

btw - I know Udo by mail contact

user posted imageYes it is Geminiblue, here is a picture of it state side. (I still can not up load from my hard drive Sorry, so here it is from Armandos page)
Udo was one of the first people I meet in the 914-6club from Germany he wanted to convert his 914-6 into a race car and at the time he could not get more than $20,000 for it.
I thought since it was the second to last 914-6 with the flares that it would be a shame if it got into a wreck and destroyed it.
So he sold it to a gentleman whom lives up north.
A friend of mine and I drove it up from Florida and stopped at Automobile Atlanta so that George could see it. He tried really hard to buy it and wanted to keep the original 914-6 manual, which is different from the normal six because manual because it has the ignition on the steering column shown in the book
The book is a mixture of 4/6cyl information.
All I can say is that 914-6 was extremely fast and we had a blast going up there.
The only thing that bothered me was when the new owner commented that it was a running car and looked clean. I was shocked and asked him if he had seen the video I had shot of the car. He replied that no and he had just bought it because of the numbers.

Sorry go a bit long on this reply.

I will load more as I learn

I seem to recall reading somewhere that the 70-71's had a narrower interior rear view mirror. I ran across one in a box of extra parts a while back, maybe I'll save it & put it on Dad's Car when I finally put it on the road.

This car in Miami was my old one. It is a great car. The current owner has taken great care of it. The interior was done by the guy I bought it from. He rebuilt the motor and redid the car. He has a repair shop in Louisville, Ky. This car is worth the money. Not stock just slightly different.

many thanks for sharing these pics pray.gif

when did you buy this car / how long did you enjoy it?

do you know the current owner?

Quilmes
I never bought the car, I just help Udo find a buyer here in the states, especially back then when the dollars was strong.
I had to get the DOT conversion done, { Change the headlights, add a seatbelt light and than put it all back to how it came from Germanyt} then we had to submit the photos and pay a fee.
The problem was that the person that was in charged of handling the paper work got smart and charged me double the price. $1,500. I had no choice but to pay it. Thanks fully that person is no longer in business.
I kept the car here in Orlando for a few months until the new owner told me to drive up the car to Wisconsin.
The new owner has a nice collection of cars and a few 914-6's. One that he races from time to time.
I can remember the look on his face when he tried to race me with his BMW M-5 and I left him in the dust, then I thought if I brake it I will be stuck paying for a new engine so I backed off.

When I find some more I will e-mail them to you.

Thanks

this was standard on the '72 914-6 manuals
I just took a look at my '72 914-6 manuals (German: 4632.10 and French: 4632.30), they show the same
but as far as I know there were no such manuals in the USA wink.gif
