Ok theres a pad by the top of the block back of the engine but no numbers.
Cant seem to find anything by the oil filler but not sure where im looking there.
My cars a 72 but where would I find the engine codes ?

For 1.7 and 1.8 engines it is on the back right side of the engine case. At an angle. for 2.0 engines it is just in front of the oil filler, running perpendicular to the wheelbase of the car. Match the engine codes up here - http://www.914world.com/specs/engnumbs.php
