Hey guys, anyone running a carbed V8,
How thick of an air cleaner can or are you running ?
How much of a clearance is there between the air cleaner and engine deck lid ?
Is your carb straight on the manifold or spacer ?

I just took mine off, but my stack was a wedge spacer, edelbrock (weber) 4bbl and then a cleaner that looks a lot like the Billet Specialties Oval series. About 3" from flange to top, but not a lot longer than the carb fore and aft.

I'm replacing it with a TBI unit that's about the same height and a $20 Edelbrock 10" Pro-Flow filter, which should just fit...

Spectre performance makes the lowest stuff available I beleive..

A simple google>image search using "V8 914" will show a bunch of pictures.

No build is the same. Build it out. Solve it. Seems odd to ask what others would do because fits vary. Build and fit.

Isn't that the point of this forum to ask for advice when we are not sure what to do? I asked for a lot of help when I was building my v8.

I used a Edelbrock and a 1/2 inch spacer and it is a tight fit. I had to take out the cross support from the engine lid to make it fit.

There are many variables in each build but if you run a 14" K&N filter top, you should be fine even if you end up with only a 2 or 3 inch filter.

Run a corvette style air filter. They are very low profile.

No offense intended. Of course this forum is the right place for advice. I just meant some things you figure out because there's not necessarily a stock answer when it comes to custom builds.

Would love to see pics of your car. It's going to be a fun beast! beerchug.gif
