I never had the frames for the front lights I just got a set and the right front wouldn't close all the way. so I hand bent the metal a little and it closes. But I hear a thump when I close it, although it does close all the way now. it there a way to move the whole light back slightly? Or a good way to stop it from rubbing?

Try adjusting the pivots until the bucket is centered then adjust the "Stop" which is the big bolt thing.
