RARE 6
Need to replace my 17-year-old rubber after reawakening my 914-6. Any ideas for 14" tires with the approximately 25" height of the original 185X14 size. Ideally would like at least an S speed rating. Stock fender lips.
Looks like BFG TAs in 205X70X14 are closest to what I want and I've run Comp TAs in that size long ago. But I'm certain some of you have been down this road more recently and may have better ideas. Not interested in changing wheels.
Thanks...

BFG's were discussed for 15's a while back. Tire selection sux for vintage cars. Try them and give us a report. popcorn[1].gif

I went to a local air cooled porsche shop. He is also a tire supplier for scca racing series and others - Bob Woodman tires. I ended up with khomo tires my size is slightly smaller than yours. I have 195 65 14. My fenders were rolled and I could fit 205's easily but didn't know that at the time. My speedo was calibrated for a lower profile tire back when I had empi 15's so this site is perfect and my speedo is right on I think the diameter is close to 24&1/4". When I get my rims for AX and D.E. days I'm going with 16's and will have him fit a really nice track tire. I liked.the perelli's I had on my boxster but the Toyo's on my Audi TT I like as well.
Depends on what type of tire you want. You can check with Bob's manager Evan. Look up www.bobwoodmantires.com .

I was just going through this in my head also for my 914-6 And I came to the conclusion I will be running fake Mahle Gas Burners on it for the street. Heavy as heck, but I can still get tires.

For the 14s you can still get the old dog bones style stores, but man are they expensive!!!! $350 - $450 a pop!!! Ouch, makes my race rubber budget look cheap.

Reason I was going through this is I am trying to deceide what wheels I am going to sell out of my collection an what ones I am hoping to purchase.

My -6 came from the factory with Steels. Some one put Fuch-like hub caps on it. confused24.gif

I was thinking about a set of 14 Fuchs

I have a set of real gas burners from when you could buy them on the cheap, but I would hate to damage one.

I like the gas burners so that is why I waa thinking of getting the fake cast ones.

I should have never sold my 6x15 Fuchs I ran on my 914-4 before I went wide body. headbang.gif

Vredestien makes a number of 14" sizes in their Sprint Classic line:

165 HR 14 84 H
175 HR 14 88 H
185 HR 14 90 H
195/70 VR 14 91 V
205/70 VR 14 95 V

Coker has them for about $150 each (+ or -), while it looks like you may be able to get them for about $100 if you search around carefully.

Note that a few modern touring tires are available in 185/70-14 as well.

The Goodyears are on sale for $76.00 each as of right now! This is Tire Rack prices BTW

And wow, they list 7 tires in that size that are not winter tires.
