I bought a set of 6X15" EMPI Fuchs and 195/65-15 Falken ZE 912's (had to embrace my car geek, I mean come on, how often can you match tire and car model numbers? lol, and the ZE912's are a decent all purpose touring/sportisih tire).
Anyway, I brought them to my local guy who does tires for me. This is a neighborhood high end auto service place, and is highly skilled in high end work and known for their great service. However, when trying to mount these tires and rims they had a bear of a time, broke one of the heads and tore the bead off another tire.......
He thinks it is a combination to the super thick bead on the tire and the thickness of the EMPI lip. He tried mounting from the back, front, etc. So, long story short he asked the mounting machine rep to come and look at what was happening and the rep advized him NOT to mount the other two as he was risking breaking teh arm and another head. Both were perplexed and think it is the style machine, that this new machine which doesnt touch the rim at all combined with the thick rim of the Fuchs and stiffness of the bead on the tire were a perfect storm. He recommends I find a P car shop that mounts Fuchs and may have an older style machine....... GRRRR.
Typical, the prettier it is, the more drama and maintenance.........
