I've wanted to do this for years! I just finished a 2 cylinder Ty 4 engine. I had a case that was not in real good shape and a couple of 1.7 heaqds that were OK. I welded up the oil holes on #2 & 4 and welded up 4 cam folowers , had the 1.7 heads fly cut for a big bore (96MM) P & C and have 1/2 of a 1911. For now and for simplicity I installed a standard 32/36 setup. I installed it om my engine start up stand and it started right up and ran fine , 60 PSI oil pressure at idle. No need to send a picture because it looks just like a regular engine although it sounds like a motorcycle.
I have a question for the forum, any suggestions on a carb set up?? I have a couple of old 1.7 bus carbs with the manifolds , I can use one of these carbs and center mount it . I can just continue to use the 32 MM weber and block off the 36 MM side??? any help. AL

You might get some info from Leonard Millholand, if he is still around. He was doing that for years. Google "the legal eagle light plane". He also used to say "don't cut that case" or advertised as the "better 1/2". Good luck! beerchug.gif

Neat, however you need to take it to the next level!

I take it that this is for a kit plane?
Wouldn't heavier T4 case, welding up the holes on a full case and a full crank make for a heavy engine?
Do you cut the heads in half?
I don't get the purpose....

I guess you could also convert it into a portable gas powered air compressor!

On the one I built I just cut a Weber in 2 and used it. w00t.gif

But wouldn't you keep the extra 2 cylinders confused24.gif
There used to be a type one kit to do this:

My initial plan was to use this as an emergancy power unit for use due to a power failior. After I looked into the cost of 3K to 5K generators I'm loosing interest. New generators cost more than you can buy a Chinese power unit with a 6 HP motor . I;m now thinking of buying a 914 tub and installing this 2Cylinder and see if I can 40MPG. OH no need for a picture since with the tin on it looks the same as any T4. Al

I thought about this very idea and was considering seeing what Jake thought.

If you take a 6 cyl, and put the smallest jugs on the outer 4 cyls, and the biggest jugs you can get on the middle two cylinders,
Then you make some custom heads & cams that use the middle two cylinders as a supercharger.
Each compression stroke, one center cyl would force the intake air charge into the outer cylinders alternating forward/rear on alternating cycles.

So you would convert a 6cyl into an internally supercharged 4 cyl.

I did the calcs once on commercially available jugs and I think the boost was over 6PSI which is ballpark "worth it" as an experiment.

I was at Chuck Becks (beck speedster and beck 550) house about 5 years ago and saw a 4 cylinder 911 engine he made many years ago. I heard that he sold it.

Al, that was probably a "Polo motor". Google that and you'll see a bunch of those, they are popular with some of the 356 and 912 guys nowadays.
