It is in the center of the rear trunk

The left doorjamb sticker, left windshield pillar plate, riveted plate in front trunk & stamped number on top of the right front fender well are the Porsche production numbers. The Karmann chassis numbers are as stated above, stamped dead center of the very rear of the back trunk, & the plate riveted to the front of the drivers doorjamb.

I'm pretty sure he means overall production numbers. not the location of the chassis number on the car

Ya Scotty, that's what I figured, however the previous post mentioned the rear trunk number & I went with it. I should have clarified in my post that the last four digits of the vin number are essentially the production number. My 6's VIN is 9140431921 so it's # 1921 in the total production of 6's. As for the total production of 914-6's I guess google, wiki, Porsche or the world link you provided are your best bets.

If I remember correctly from the Porsche Bible "Excellence was Expected", there were a total of 3360 made over the 3 year span and 1788 were shipped to USA dealers.
