I went to install the shafts today and noticed that the bolts I have are too small (diameter). They are the right size for the transmission side. Aren't they the same?
914Sixer
Both sides should be the same M8X48mm
Tom
Billy,
All of the CV bolts are the same. Could you maybe have put the bolt in one of the pin holes? That is one reason why I had wanted to do mine by removing the whole axle to include the stub axle. I had heard of others having line up issues with getting the pins in fully before being able to start the bolts with the stub axle already in the bearing housing. Try starting one or two of the bolts right in the stub axle to make sure the bolts are the right size.
Tom, Made it home OK, traffic was pretty light! smile.gif

PS: I left my Haynes manual on the rear trunk. sad.gif Just keep it safe for me until we get together again.

Did someone do a five lug conversion and use 911 stubs? My stubs and transmission flanges are M10 (108mm CV's both sides).
PanelBilly
They are diffinately bigger. I had the 5 lug conversion done by Eric Shea. Eric you out there?

Just found my original paperwork from PMB and it says 911. Now will my 914 CV's still work?

No they will not. You need 911 axles. 944's I think will work too but seems like there is more to it. You just need to get the 911 flanges for the tranny. They are a direct replacement so no biggie there. I think the early 911 axles are a little shorter than 73 on. Hopefully someone else will chime in

Best prices for new axles is here. You will need to measure the correct length.

I am running early 911 stuff with 108mm CV's, stub axles and flanges.
Swayaway makes the axles that work with the bigger CV's. All covered in the above classic threads.

Guess I'm going to be selling my powder coated axles with new cv's greased up and ready to install. Got new bolts and schorr's too
Larmo63
