Rockaria,

You have a super collection and very nicely displayed as well. Plus your list is nice too. I am curious, are those diecasts or kits? Or both? If mixed, what percentage of each? Oh, and how long have you been at it?

Thanks,
Mike

Hello Mike,

Thanks for the nice coments. I have been collecting for quite a while 20 years or so... BUT! I was a model builder, and not a very good one, but I had fun. But since the late 90s diecast "Pre-built" models have really started to become phenominal quality for the price. For an average cost of $35 per 1/43 you get a really nice pre-built model. So I would rather buy a perfect pre-built model then Fubuk one up and get mad at my lack of modeling skills.

Though I have built about 5 of them out of resign casts from Starter and such. I have about 12 or so that were professionally built resin casts from MR Models and such. Those cost out the nose, but are rock on perfect. And all the rest are diecast metal factory pre-built from Minichamps, Vitesse, Eagle's Race, and the like.

You can find a bunch of really cool pre-built models at http://www.ewacars.com They are so affordable It is easy to get a lot fast. I had them all over the place and the freekin Kids wanted to play with them. So I bought the display to keep them all in safe and keep track of them. You can get really cool and inexpensive display items here: http://www.exoticar.com. Once there just do a keyword search on everyting with the word DISPLAY. Those cabinets I have were only $130 each. Not Bad...

Take care,

Drew 365, is that Testarossa the one from sharper image a long time ago. It's like 1/4 scale or so, with a key and you have to build pretty much everything like a real car coming together?

Just by seeing your collevtion and the website, I really want to start collecting die-cast models again. I tried, then lost touch. There are some damn good deals on that site some for under $10 and the most I think was for a 959. Lots of race version cars, thanks for the site.

FG makes the best 5th scales. I have a friend that's sponsored by FG. Great cars. I think 5th scale is pretty cool, but feels a little slow motion for me. Probably because it handles like a real car.

Too bad you don't live in this area. we have plenty of 5th scale racing around here. Lots of 5th scale racing in Santa Clara (Mission college parking lot) and at Crystal Park in Compton ( ar15.gif ar15.gif ) down in Southern California.

Rockaria,

Thanks for all of the good info. I'm a slow collector of 1/43 resins and an even slower builder! LOL! I also collect some 1/24-1/25 plastic and resin. All mostly sports-prototypes. I agree with you about the improvement in diecast quality, it's much improved recently. I intend to pick up a few of the new Spark models since they have some subjects not available in other lines.

I don't think I bought my Testarossa kit from Sharper Image but it may be the same kit. Yes it has a key and the doors lock and the suspension flexes on real springs and it had a million pieces. Took me forever to finish but I'm kind of anal and slow. I'd like to have the scale model of a Ferrari engine that runs. I read about it in Rossa a couple of years ago. Talk about unbelievable. The guy made his own spark plugs etc. That'd take me the rest of my life and would probably drop a valve on test day. ohmy.gif

I have an article on this Frenchy who build a 1/3 fully operational 312PB. 12 cyl motor, 24 valves, twin overhead cams,dry-sump(w/ dual oil pumps), home made fuel injection, spark and glow plugs, water cooled by twin radiators, which revs to 13,000 and produces 8 bhp. Five speed gear box is an exact replica. It's oil cooled with it's own radiator and includes reverse and diff-lock. Tig welded tube frame, four-piston brakes hydraulically operated with a miniature proportioning valve. 1/3 scale fuses, battery, working lighting(high/low beams), with pedal operated brake lights. Tach, amp, temp gauges are calibrated and accurate. wacko.gif
drew365
That's the one. I'll bet he doesn't spend a lot of time on the couch watching T.V. Talk about self motivated!

Enjoy:

The crazy guy who built this 312PB

There used to be a video on him online, but I think the site is down. He explains why, and how he did it.
