Key on the column is proper for a 1971 I believe.

This isn't what I would exactly call entry level. It is pretty complete..
Except for non number matching engine issue.
It looks like just about everything is there.

To me, entry level would be a roller missing many pieces. Basically a VIN.
in a rusty tub.

Just my opinion..

I want to say late 6s had the same column as a 4, IIRC. But the windshield wiper fluid reservoir looks like one out of a 4 too. confused24.gif

Jalopnik has a feature wherein they offer up an ad and ask readers to decide whether it is a "nice price" or a "crack pipe."

$39,500 and a box of parts with a non matching engine number? To me: crack pipe.

Steering column is wrong for a '71. Only the '72 914-6 had the -4 ignition on the column. Mystery science theater on that change.

Funny that the original heat exchangers are there and in pretty good shape. Everything else is so rough that it would cost a fortune to put this six back to nearly original condition. Plus it doesn't have the original engine. Price is way out of whack for a six in this shape.

I agree. It looks complete. But it is still over priced by a larger measure.

The ignition switch has been hacked from the dash.
Johny Blackstain
You got to wonder, did they loose the keys or was this car stolen @ some point? That dash has been butchered where the key is supposed to go.
GeorgeRud
I can see a picture where it's obvious that the original -6 ignition key position was cut out, probably when they tried to convert to a -4 steering column. I don't see any parts that wouldn't require massive amounts of restoration. It would be interesting what someone actually pays for this parts collection, though the VIN is appropriate for a 71.
turk22
39,900, some assembly required....

it sure sits weird and one corner and both lids are goofy. put a subaru in it.
toolguy
Straight 911 oil cooler on the motor and I didn't see any of the 914-6 engine sheet metal anywhere. .

4 cylinder port hole rear valance.
type47fan
I see the -6 ignition switch, wiper stalk, and turn signal stalk in the jumble of parts near the white headlight surrounds.
SKL1
I had a '71 never should have sold (don't we all have stories like that) and it definitely had the left sided 911 type key and steering column.

No 6 steering column to be seen though. But at least it comes with rear shift linkage rods for both side and tail shifters. dry.gif

Didn't we see and pick on this car a little while ago? Seems awfully familiar...

boxsterfan
Everybody is picking on this car, but I for one, would drool all over myself for a 1971 914-6. If I had the funds, the car would be in my garage already.
Cairo94507
They are just hard to find.
rgalla9146
It's a real 6 but many of the parts are a jumble of early and late 4 cyl.
The interior is not 71 vinyl, the carpet is a mix of years, etc.etc.
Looks like someone emptied out their garage.
I know of a non-number matching car with rust and missing parts selling for over 30k recently.
As always its about previous damage and rust.
They'll get the money.... or damn close.
If the exchange rate was better it would be gone already.
gandalf_025
It is all about rust and crash damage, neither is shown.

The rear shift rod looks like it is from a 4 also ?
So, no idea of how much of the stuff shown belongs to the car ?

I wouldn't be surprised if they got at least near their price.
rhodyguy
buy it and throw another 40k at it and you'll have a swell car…maybe.
Larmo63
Like was mentioned before, there is a /6 stalk and controls for a /6 dash, but the car has a /4 steering stalk installed. Weird.

And, the ignition switch hack job on the dash…..?

agree.gif I don't know why so much stock is put into asking price. You can ask anything... Only the sold price is the market price.
