Without thinking about my actions, I decided that the shield on my clutch needed to be shortened. It was just too long. What I wasn't thinking about was that the cable itself needs to be shortened a like amount. I called around and got the name of a local business that does this work, but I need to take it by to see what they think.

Two steps forward, one back! Such is life.

That does sound unfortunate. I have to then ask. Why shorten the outer sleeve?

It was too long.

You know it's not really possible for your clutch cable to be too long. Unless, something is bent or broken.

There are times when you may need a small spacer on the adjusting nut but that's about it.

It was too long.

And the front fell off

Could you possibly have received the wrong cable?
I have heard that happens.
