Anybody know what the deal is with QSC when it comes to flywheels?

I did a quick look and "OEM" supplier early 911/914-6 flywheels are $500+ new.
But a few places are selling "QSC" for ~$200 new. I've heard the name QSC
for cylinders (not in high regard) but anyone have experience with flywheels?

I've gotten a flywheel from the cheap places (wasn't for a 914 though) and had a problem with the face where the crank seal rides was too small. Would have leaked like CRAZY. Luckily, I had heard mention of that issue before, so I knew to check it.

So just check the thing over dimensionally when you get it.

Also, cheaper steel alloy/mixtures may wear more quickly. I haven't heard of it happening, but it is a logical possibility.

Flywheels typically are not a problem when it comes to the "cheap" stuff, its more about the pressure plate failing, however the disk itself also tends to fail.

I wouldnt hesitate to grab it and send it to a shop for balancing.

The lightened one they sell (911-914/6) looks pretty nice.

Thanks for advice. I'm not really looking at buying at least until off-season, but
it is good to know. Also I may have mine resurfaced.

and cheap steel used for toyota truck frames was never a problem either.....

you wonder were all the recycled steel goes??
