There was a thread in the last few months regarding the do's and donts on installing a new flywheel seal. I've searched but I cant find it.....anyone that remembers it?

Do yourself a favor and get a Victor Reinz seal - Elring was having QC issues

The main Elring issue is it sits in too deep if you drive it home.
Leave it flush with the case or no deeper than the bevel on the seal bore face.

I am finding that the same issue with transmission input and output shaft seals being too short to be fitted all the way in also.
