I am trying to sell my 914 and have had several people ask me about this "box" that they have seen in the photos next to the battery. The box they are referring to is the Control Unit. I have it ziptied onto the battery because I am not sure where it goes.
So, I have seen photos of other 914s with the ECU mounted onto the battery tray next to the firewall. However, on my car I have a air conditioning compressor and hose right in the way.

Can anyone assist me in where this control unit goes on a 914 with an air conditioning unit? Any ideas?

Oh, here is another photo without the battery.

I also found another post that I think answers my question. I am missing the ECU mounting bracket:

So, just to add, I found that AutoAtlanta sells a control unit bracket that I think I would need to mount the ECU correctly:

Look in the bottom picture with the 3 holes in the right side vertical section of the battery tray. Since yours is an L-Jet 1.8, there should be captured nuts in the black covering of the ECU. 6mm screws through the holes into the captured nuts. In fact, in the second pic, you can see the 2 studs that would go through the holes.

PS: on second look, it looks like there is a hose through the body where the ECU would be. Your car have a/c? (Doh, reread to find out you say you have a/c) If so, the ECU was probably moved.

The AA bracket is for a D-Jet ECU.

On cars that had A/C installed, the ECU was moved pretty much anywhere the installer felt like putting it. The most popular thing to do was to move it to the firewall, with a couple of L-shaped brackets. Just fake something up yourself--that is pretty much what the people who installed the AC unit did anyway.

Dave is correct about cars with A/C. Installers did what they wanted so I would tell buyers they can put it where THEY want it.

Wow, cool! Thanks for the information. No wonder it was so confusing to me. smile.gif
I will look around some more and see if I can find where they originally mounted it. I haven't seen any brackets on the firewall, but I will look around some more.
Thanks again!
