My 76 914 was not originally equipped with fog lights, so I don't have a fog light switch. I would like to add fog or driving lights. I do have a rear window heater/defogger switch taken from a 914 parts car. The Porsche 914 PET indicates that the switch is the same for front fog lights, rear fog lights, and rear window heater, so I should be okay with this switch.

This rear window heater/defogger switch has a green illuminated face with a white spiral/curlicue symbol, I guess to represent the electric resistance heater grid in the rear window. The front fog light switch had a yellow illuminated face with a fog light symbol, I think. I know these switch faces or caps (per the PET) are removable and interchangeable by stretching the rubber collars on the switch knobs.

Is there a source for these switch faces, or am I stuck with the rear window defogger symbol? I do have a spare headlight switch assembly that I could use for a donor and maybe use the switch face from it and possible tint it yellow. Suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Check with Brad Mayeur at 914Ltd or Garrold Schaffer in Portage, IN. They both have used parts available that might fit your needs. IF not, Auto Atlanta may have some available, though you probably would need to purchase the complete switch.

I have a couple, there is a green one and a yellow, I'm not sure which colour is correct for your year.

One is cracked but you can't tell when installed, the other is faded.
If you can't find one more local to you let me know.

Yes it is the same switch, it's a common VW beetle switch.

PM me your address. I will check my stash in the morning, but I am 99% sure I have a good yellow insert. I will drop one in the mail to you.

This is exactly what I did, check out the thread on #770. I believe I got the fog light switch lens from Automotion or Sierra Madre.

Steve, I have been reading your #770 thread over the months or years laugh.gif . Great thread, great project. Keep up the good work. I went back and reread it and found the posts regarding the fog light installation and your wiring diagrams, which I saved for guidance. Thanks.
