So, perusing around the car I'm restoring at work... not gonna say which, but it ends with a 7, I found this old unused sticker underneath one of the floors. It appears to be a driver registration sticker from back in the early 70's.



It asks for driver name, blood type, most recent tetanus shot, and something else that is obscured with dirt (I'm afraid to clean it) in both German, and English.

Does anyone have any idea what this sticker was used for back then? This thing definitely pre-dates me by a couple (many) years. My best guess is that it was given to a driver to put on his helmet as he went through tech inspection, like they did in the SCCA back in the 80's.

We will need pictures of this "**7" car to know for sure.

I think you can clean the dirt carefully at both that bottom line Y at the top & bottom of the green circle where it probably tells organization & track where it was to be used.

Do everything gently & start with a dry Q-tip to try to brush away anything loose. Depending upon the sticker's paper material, you'd use different stuff to clean it. I'd suggest asking someone at Cal Poly Spomoni's main library archives, cuz they'll know more about restoration & preservation of paper dox.

It looks like a German track name where the "S.....erne" ?? shows thru at the bottom, but I don't know them all - nor even many - even though I was a HS senior & college age kid (about your age now) then when they ran those XX7's in the `69-75-ish era (don't recall exactly when they completely stopped running them in Germany & then only in the USA in CanAm etc. thereafter). It doesn't look like "Circuit de la Sarthe" for Le Mans to me.

Since it looks to be blank & unused, so my guess is that it blew away & under where you found it at that track, so they probably gave the driver another for that race at track "X".

It was issued at that driver for their EMTs in the case of a crash.

Thanx again for coming out to our Concours, as a lot folks told me during the day that it was cool to see your 914 in person & some to have met you, aftr reading the article. Also - congratz on your internship at PMSNA (PMNA?), as I didn't realize you got that!

Not much help I know, but maybe Sir Andy &/or some of our German members on here will recognize the track &/or racing org. from the visible few letters in the green ring?

Did anyone there tell you what the plastic bin behind the engine over the rear of the transaxle was for?? Rick Perkins of PCNA told me when he came out to check out my `73 for the HO & BO Recalls & showed me a pic of Leno's or Seinfeld's of this car you're restoring (having a half-zymer's moment, I think S's), & I didn't know until he told me back then either.

It also had to have a jack.
Don't forget it had centerlock wheels.
Imagine the lug wrench !!!!

And the track in question may be an old one in Germany named Solitude........ in Stuttgart

No - it was another sanctioning body requirement for another reason, although those were all required too. In fact that was my 1st guess with Rick P., but I was wrong too!

The spare & toolkit had their own mount/area different than what I'm talking about, & this one was little used! It may surprise many on here! It did me!

So let's see if young Ethan can answer it, before we start throwing out more guesses please.

Especially since he's serving an internship at Porsche Racing, so he can check around.

That XX7 lug wrench was huge!

And I'm assuming for this answer that it is not a 907 that Ethan is talking about! ;-)

You mean the two trays that sat outside of the center of the car, over the rear wheels?

ACO required a Luggage compartment for all racing cars, as part of rules homologation.

You're gonna have to try harder than that. Haha

Okay, I do believe I've successfully deciphered it after some cleaning.

The sticker says RÖMER SPORTHELME, and have no clue of the significance. Obviously sporthelme is helmet, and sport, so I'm assuming race-helmet.. and Romer is a city, is it not..? The lower line is a place for "medicine"

I've only found one other image of the sticker, but still cannot figure out where it may have been used.. Andy, anyone aus Deutschland?

Yeah, they were supposed to function as a regular ole STREET USE sports car or coupe, etc. - even prototypes like the "XX7."

Yes - name, blood type, vaccinations & meds. info for the EMTs - & probably put on the helmets as you surmised at first with SCCA rules.

Bell & others here used to include a similar sticker in the box when you bought a helmet in the USA back in the 70's, so my guess is so did Romer & that one got loose!

Have you heard whether or not PRNA will be moving from Santa Ana up to their new Carson facility? ... if so, about when?

I did some of the Brownfields redevelopment work on the 187 acre property next door in the late-1980's & early-90's (now LA football stadium site #4 & was an option back then), & knew/worked with the former 9-hole golf course owners before PCNA bought it. They had the same landfill issues with drilling muds as with us next door.
