Looking to buy a Petronix for my 73' 1.7, comes in mechanical and vacuum advance models. I assume I have a vacuum advanced distributor based on the silver UFO looking disk attached to the side of it with a small 5mm hose plugged into it

You may have both. Pull the cap and rotor and look for advance arms. You can feel for swing out motion.

So if I do indeed have both then which Petronix model should I get?

if you have both, you want the Vacuum advance.

Get the vacuum advance set, and either buy a spare right now, or save your points and condenser in the glove box for the day it dies.

Years of no issues with Pertronix - can't say the same about points.

Towle is spot on. If it's a dual advance its considered vacuum. Save the points and condenser as he said. I've had the petronix crap out on my 009 and it saved me to have my old set to swap out.

just cheap insurance, toss them in the glove box with a screw driver and feeler gauge.
