Found mine, thanks for the pictures. 7500733 which I think is right in line with a 3/70 vehicle.

And Duh, never thought about the fact that trans are different between a /4 and /6. Figured a tailshifter was a tailshifter... My spare is obviously from a /4 as the number starts with 911/.

I bought it strictly as an emergency replacement in case of major problems. Will it even work? If not, anyone looking for an early tailshifter??

In speaking to Rick the other night, as I understand it, the gear ratios are different in the 6 tranny. I have a few extra tail-shirt trannys from 4s, which I previously thought I could use in my 6. But, now I am looking for a 6 tranny, for this reason.

It would be nice to find a 6 box but I don't have one so I bought a set of used gears instead. Using Dr. Evils video and Red Beards info I will build a tail shift transaxle I have here.

Number is embossed into center bottom rib of case.

That's what I thought too so I gave that answer in another thread.....Learned something new today!

Early 914/6 (at least up to 914.043.0181) have the number stamped into the bottom rib the same as the 914/4. The correct transmission number for a 914/6 is generally +/- 40 of the serialized part of the VIN. for example 914.043.2450 would have a range of 7502410 and 7502490.

Well, my VIN is 430826, the trans number is 7500733. Difference is 93. Car has never been out of my sight for any period of time for 38 years except for repair work at a certain Georgia company almost 30 yrs ago. Had some syncro rings replaced, but don't suspect any funny business.

Does COA even list trans serial numbers? Anything definitive documented about what numbers all left the factory together?

Could it have been an early dealership replacement?
