New to 914 world. Just saying hi. Been on rennlist and pelican for quite some time.
Always been fond of the 914. Owned quite a few Porsches thus far, 996, 987, 951, 944 8v & s2, 968, 911 (72&86)
The search has been ongoing for a 914. Came to hear from the experts.
If anyone can share comparisons between an NA 944 and the 914 its much appreciated.
Primary concerns are low HP. Once the 944 goes its a blast, Im assuming a similar experiance in the 914.
Thanks!

914 feels a little better tan the 944 NA, and handling there is nothing to compare, Get a good 2.0 and you'll be just fine. Of curse you will want more HP, but it's a better feel than the NA. Just a street legal go cart.

NA 944s are not very fast. If you want that, buy a 944 turbo. I have an '87 944 Turbo and a '70 914-6. The turbo is more comfortable and faster but the -6 is more like a go-cart - easier to have fun at lower speeds. Also much easier to work on. But the turbo is fast.

NA is a d o g. I hated mine so much I sold it at a loss after a month just to teach myself a lesson. 914's are all about handling. Stripped down, low CG and fun in the twisties.

Did I mention I didn't like my NA 944. Leaky sun roof, poor quality electrical everything.

A 944 rolls like a potato in the turns. A 914 is a strawberry - sexy, fast, and fun.

I have both a 914-6 and a 944 NA. The 944 is my 17 year-olds daily driver. I don't trust him any further than I can pick him up and throw him. That should tell you what I think of the 944. Heck, it's even a pretty nice 944.

Personally, I have a hard time finding any similarities between a 944 and a 914, other than that the names of each start with a 9 and end with a 4.

Handling is magical on a 914. Lots of feedback. Car will seem like its going faster when its not.

The 914 Feels faster but is actually not.
On track the 44 is slightly quicker if both cars are stock-ish
The much more modern suspension/design benefits it in sweepers and fast corners
In autox the 914 is much much faster with the slower speeds. much lighter weight to transition

Thanks for the feedback, as I suspected. Not sure I want to part with the 944 I have, its super clean, it has its place. I have a 911 to go fast so the 914 is really to play with. I would love a 6, just need to decide how much money I want to part with.
Thanks!

But there are no comparisons to a 914 except that they were neglected NARPs
My Fav 944 was the 89-90 S2's! I had one as a Company Car and it was a better beast than a Turbo

When I used to track my 914 I would out brake the 944's going in and pass them. But they would pass before the next turn. Then I out break them......it was fun. They didn't like it.

Supposedly a 968 motor swap into a lightweight 944s is a kick in the pants...

Put a /6 or a V8 in and you pass up the 944 in all categories. The grin factor on a /6 is large.
