I have an original 914-6 (purchased when I was 21 and I'm now 66 aka old F*** blink.gif )with K&N filters with rain hats. I want to put an oil breather catch can in the engine compartment to separate the oil mist from the air coming from the oil tank vent hose before it is routed to the rain hats to be ingested by the center carb throats. I would prefer having whatever is done be reversible for originality's sake if/when I revert back to stock air cleaner assembly. Any help and photos deeply appreciated.
Thanks
Mark

Hi Mark - It would be great to see some pictures of your car. Did you buy it brand new? (Note- we may have something in common.)

Thanks,
Michael

My car is #9141430354 which I did purchase new on July 30,1971. 44 years at the end of this month. Phew we be old! sad.gif There are pictures on page 28 &29 of members 914 pictures of it. I cannot figure out how to attach an image from my USB drive or I would post some more. Not computer savvy!

We added a breather can to a 3.6L conversion we did around 2009.
Not quite the same as your application, but good for comparison.
The car is at the shop currently so I can take a pic on Monday.

This type of Canton catch/breather can is available from Pegasus and other suppliers - seems to work well and could be mounted in the engine compartment if desired. Easily removable back to stock.

You can make one cheap, i did.. I purchased an aluminum water bottle at a Walgreens for a few bucks and added the oil breather filter to the top which i picked up at the local flaps. drilled a hole into the side and added a hose fitting. They had different sizes i bought two, i used the one that fit best and used the other for a water bottle....

Back in the 70's Stoddard Porsche/Audi offered a "sport upgrade" (claimed HP increase from 125 to 142) which consisted of a 911S distributor, larger carb venturi, individual Filtron aircleaners, and 2 out sport muffler. My car received that but is otherwise stock. (The distributor and muffler are the only original parts still in place). The original IDT carbs were replaced with IDA which were Carter repops so not really up to snuff so finally replaced with these IDS. Filtrons air filters replaced with K& N obviously. Beautiful car yes, Old f--t getting there. rolleyes.gif

Nice six Mark smile.gif
I welded up this aluminum breather/ catch tank, and has a small (hidden) k+n filter .
It's fastened to a bracket from the shoulder belt bolt.
I've seen ready made catch tanks like mine for sale online, a lot easier than

The fan +drive came off of a (ventilated) 935 engine.
Right time, right place, right bid smile.gif
