Are warm air guide plates needed for my 1974 1.8. I was looking on the Porsche online parts listing and they are not shown or listed. I was wondering if by having the guide plates on if it will increase engine heat? And are they needed on both sides of the engine?

personally? yes. they also tie the heat exchangers to the case rather than just the rear hanger and the exhaust stud nuts.

Why would they be put on there if they were not needed?

agree.gif Very few "extra parts" on these cars...

I find from experience, it's very hard to outsmart a German engineer. They would not be there if they were not necessary.

They're in the parts catalog, with all the other engine sheet metal.
039 119 353 and 039 119 354 but there are some revisions.

For 74' and earlier the pass side is common. The driver's side is dependent on whether you have a side or tail shift trans.
