Real Magnesium Mahle Gas Burner rims. 15 x 5.5, dated 1970 (the ones I can read, anyway - can check dirty ones for someone that's concerned). These are rare and aren't always clean - the magnesium is known to corrode quickly and easily, just like VW BRM wheels.

Five of them so you can have a matching spare. One wheel was painted blue at one point, is partially stripped. One wheel had a crack and was welded and repaired.

I've seen a set of 4 not spotless ones go for $4000, and perfect ones asking higher than that. There are less and less of these available, thanks to damage and magnesium's propensity to corrode. I know it isn't a cheap price, but I also don't need to sell them today. I've already gotten offers that weren't lowball, but not in the 'yes' range.

sounds like you are in the ball park and not far off. I meant no disrespect. i guess more just realizing how these 914 parts and cars are being noticed and for the collector that needs that to complete his restoration, he will be willing to pay. did they come off of your 914/6? Is that what they would have been on originally?

Because these were also used on 911s, and the rarity of wheels that are magnesium and only available for a few years, the price has gone up quite a bit over the past several years, like many 60s/70s Porsche parts. These are a from a collection of Porsche parts acquired over several decades. Originally, the date is correct for a 914/6 or a 911.

Damn, back a few years, when I had two sets, they were worth about $50. per wheel, because we all wanted wider wheels; should have left them in the basement alloy collection!

Left in a N. Mich basement for significant amount of time would've left em cracked and disinigrating. You probably made a good choice for the time Nowadays magnesium wheels are where its at though. Us VW guys love these wheels, Porsche pattern Torque thrusts, BRMs etc.

Also - I grew up in Iowa - the rust belt, so I KNOW corrosion, and understand exactly what Magnesium can do when in those elements and unprotected/uncared for. That's why I mention it, being in Colorado. I've met people that have never been to thoose areas and don't understand the corrosion issues I grew up with.

Would also consider partial trades of 60s/70s period looking sport seats, and other 15x6-7" wheels for a 911.

These have always been worth good money. The 4 lugs were always cheap.

These are my favorite 5 lug wheel but they really are show wheels and not drivers

the blue I think is the paint primer...seems I remember a number of them that we were trying to polished and they always had the blue....

They are magnesium - under 10lbs each. Less than a forged aluminum Fuchs.

BTW I'm going to meet up with my 356 buddies, one I know regrets selling his set (he borrows them from the new owner for auto-x'ing his concourse winning 356SC. He may be interested in having his own set again.
