yeah, i know .04 to .06 is standard...
does anyone run anything less without carnage?
i'm shooting for a 9.5:1 compression ratio with a 2056. i'll know head CC's tonight, but i'm just thinking out loud right now. cam is from Elgin:
.288 duration/ .333 lift

I believe I recall reading on the Shoptalk Forums that some folks had run 0.035" deck. Raby chimed in as well... Memory is foggy on this, I think he said he had built one motor with 0.025"? But if I'm remembering it correctly, he sweated for hours and hours over making absolutely certain that everything was spot-on.

0.032" and don't miss a shift at high rpm

Depends on your rpm limit and what rods you have.
With stock rods and 6.5K rpm you need at least 40 thou.
With Carillo rods you can get as close as .030 if everything is carefully set up, even up to 8k.
It's not the valve clearance thats a problem with low deck height its rod stretch at high rpm and the pistons hitting the head.

I have ran .025
I'd run no less than .035 just to be safe, some pistons can expand .005 at temperature..
