Hey everyone out there in the 914 world!

I recently purchased a 1973 Porsche 914 1.7l for my very first automobile project based on the uniqueness of the car and that it happened the very first type of car I got behind the wheel of (neighborhood friends car, not mine).

As I get started down the winding 914 restoration road, I was wondering if there is anyone in the Denver area that could provide me with some local advice or just to connect with. Even for a cup of coffee or a beer.

If not, well im going to have to lean on everyone else not in Denver for help so be ready. Ha jk jk. I have checked out this forum and glad to be a part of it.

Thanks for looking.

Was just logged in the local Colorado site. It shows 194 members, some more active than others. Love flared cars, just don't have the guts or $$$ to cut mine.

I am up north (Longmont).
I'm also interested in what you intend to do with it.

There's a pretty good following of 914s in Rocky Mountain Vintage Racing.
Maybe even 8-10.

Check it out at rmvr.com & the yahoo group mentioned above.

And I dont know if you want those wheels. I just might have to take em off your hands and trade you for a set of original 2.0L Fuchs.
That will make it more "original" wink wink...

Interested to hear exactly what brand & size those wheels are.
They might be unicorns....

You should consider attending a 914 event with us Colorado folk.
Next week at Bryce Canyon for an all 914 gathering

Ya was overwhelmed but the number of responses to my post. Pretty excited about that.

They are fiberglass and the drivers front is slight ripped that will need repaired at some point. As far as project plan - getting it running is my main priority at the moment. I found out that the engine is seized and am in the process of removing the engine. I spent some time on it last night getting stuff disconnected.

Just really trying to get it drivable. Seized engine at the moment that i am intending to rebuild. It still in the car so really trying to get it out. Being my first project, i don't really know what the hell I'm doing but did buy a bunch of tools to work on it and have a garage.

I purchased the wheels to get it on the trailer because the wheels that were on it when i bought it were an odd size that they didn't make tires for. They are enkei wheels that i got off amazon here http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DNLF4H...ailpage_o09_s00 . I think they look pretty sweet once i get it moving.

Thanks for the support.

I am over in lakewood but just moved here from englewood and still go there often if you would be interested in meeting up. It looks that you know a thing or two about the 914's.

Unfortunately, the only projects i have done previously are oil and brakes so this has been a huge learning experience thus far. My first step is getting it out of the car and i think i am close. The engine is seized or frozen but i do know the starter works. Have you rebuilt an engine? any advice on getting it unseized?

Thanks,
-Brett

You might try firing up the grill and setting out a cooler full of cold ones. Those tend to attract 914 owners, many of whom will be happy to help wrench on your car. Especially the engine removal; it's a big and intimidating task that is actually a lot easier than it seems at first.

Ha ya grill is going and my girlfriend works for Breckenridge brewery so beer is no issue. Anytime anyone that reads this wants to come to lakewood colorado and help me lighten the fridge load and work on a 914 let me know.

Brett,

You should take a look at some of the 914's The Metal Surgeon has worked on! He has a few examples out here on 914World. I think you will be very impressed. I am jealous that I don't live closer to him.
