just went to the local scrapyard today and happenned to come accross a VW 4 cyl. engine when i asked about it the scrapyard guy told me it was a 1.8 type 4, but i can't trust this guy. the cranckcase number starts with W022 (i thought 1.8's came with the prefixes AN and EC)
does anyone know what this engine is?
will it work on a 914 (1.7 914 engines numbers started with W80)?
how does it differ from a 914 type 4?

thanks

nick

p.s:my guess is it's a 1.7

W, EA or EB = 1.7 L

W, EA = 8.2:1 comp. ratio
EB = 7.3:1 comp. ratio

W, EA = 80hp @ 4900 rpm
EB = 72hp @ 5000 rpm

measured the bore: 93 mm....
so i'm guessing it's a 1.7 cranckcase with 1.8 piston/cyl.....

but i'm still open to any suggestion....

W80

nope, the 80 stands for the HP the W engines were making, that list in the 914Info section is a bit misleading about that ...
