The bumpers on my car have some small dents and I plan to knock them back as good as I can and then paint them black. Being chrome, I know I need to prep the surface so the paint will stick. What have other done to ensure the paint will stick for a long long time. Looking for techniques that work. thanks

I'd like to know about this too! Can the old chrome be removed?
TheCabinetmaker
Yes it can. I took a set to a local chrome shop. They "dechromed" them for me. They painted nicely.

I had mine sand blasted. Use etching primer and good paint.

To paint the chrome:
Clean it really well, sand/scuff until there is no shine, use a self etching primer, prime and then paint. Or so I've seen it done.

The only way to go. . better yet, after sandblasting have them powder painted with primer. . the fill, sand, re-prime and final coat paint.
