Full Version: L-Jetronic Resistor pack question

The L-Jet Resistor pack appears fairly robust.

Is it a "lifetime" part or does it need replacement with time ?

I am trying to collect duplicate L-Jet components to keep as back up.

Just wondering if a back up Resistor Pack would be redundant.

Yes, they do fail. Mostly due to heat. The new pack probably has different internal parts too.

The wires frequently break off right at the resistor.

In 30 years of L-Jet, never had the resistor pack fail. However, I did have a wire break off. Secure the resistor pack so that it doesn't bounce around; same for the dual relay.
Having said that, I still have a spare resistor pack handy...... smile.gif

located on the passenger side by the battery. mounted to the body i have seen several wires break. I have a couple extras if you need one. New ones,are still available for about $90. i have one from an 87 Suburu with the same resistant nalues and a different plug.

If you want to change the plug , you can get them off of any 80s 4 cylinder Nissan or Toyota. Nippondenso built the L-Jet system under license from Bosch for both Nissan and Toyota.

They are just 4 wire wound resistors, nothing fancy about them. But the wires do break and then you end up with a dead hole.

If you get a replacement and keep it in the car, Murphy's Law will ensure that the original one never fails. If you decide to leave it out for one road trip, that's when the wires will break. Intermittently, because that's the hardest to diagnose...
