Just got AutoCad Fusion 360 to better leverage recent access to a serious 3 axis machining center. Pretty cool software - has FEA capabilities, too!

Was scratching my head about making some wheel centers for use w/BBS outer sections.

I didn't find anything too useful in my initial Interweb search. Anyone know of available cad files of Fuchs wheels?

Could you make 16" 4 lug Fuchs?

So you all don't know me from Adam but what you'll find is I like to do stuff for fun, not profit. I have a day job for that. I love sharing what skills I do have, getting to know the community and giving back. If you're interested, here's a link to a thread about a carbon fiber gas tank I built for an buddy.

This build led me to hosting a "Composites Day" at my house. Had about 25 folk show up and we walked through how to build a simple carbon fiber part. Everyone built something and we had a great time.

So, that's a long way around to "Sure. let's talk." Can you help with the CAD files?

I've only started looking but I understand there is some scanning software that may be able to get us what we need. I'm checking with some friends who are in the prototyping business. More as I learn what's possible.

That is one hell of a carbon fiber build thread. What ever happened to the Suburban?

I might have to try making some 914 CF parts now.

I don't have any Fuch CAD files. I'm betting you would have to shrink the design to make the center fit inside a 16" BBS barrel. Rebel Racing builds these wheels with real Fuch centers. I inquired about making Fuch 4 bolt 16" wheels like this, but no reply.

Check with the machine operator, it might have a probe as part of their tooling.

Not too sure I would do a 1:1 copy, factory part is forged and can be made thinner than a billet in some sections.

I'd say just use a photo(s) as a guide and basic measuring tools and then find some true billet rims to get an idea of what thickness and radii used.

Done right one wouldn't know or care if off a .125" here or there as long as the critical dims to fit the hoops are within spec.

I missed out on an auction on eBay for a set of hoops to make a set of 4 17x7's which would fit under stock fenders. Sold for something $300 shipped sad.gif

I found this on GrabCAD

https://grabcad.com/library/porsche-914-wheel-1
https://grabcad.com/library/porsche-fuchs-wheels-5x205-1

Available as an AutoCAD Inventor file, which you might be able to import into Fusion 360.

Not done to scale very well in my opinion, too thick and no features in the back but it is a start I guess.

Second one looks like a Magnus Walker wheel; but 4 spoke....kinda like it!

Don't wheels have to meet some kind of D.O.T. specifications? Design, materials, welds, etc...?

Some interesting reading here:

I guess if he didn't want to pay for the testing the old "off-road only" is applied!
