How do we decode the screw descriptions in the Porsche PET ?

hexagon-head tapping screw
b 4 , 8 * 16

tapping screw
bz 4, 8 * 13

counter-sunk screw

I'd like to place an order with McMaster Carr to have them on hand when I'm ready.

I think a conversion chart that converts the metric measurements (diameter and length) of the fasteners to standard US measurements is whats's needed.

Kind of like trying to convert the metric wire sizing to standard gauges.

For most threaded fasteners, you do not convert. Sheet-metal screws can be an exception, but nuts and bolts are not.

The "4,8 * 16" notation means 4.8mm diameter, 16mm shank length. Remember that most European countries use the comma as a decimal separator, and the period as a separator between thousands/millions etc. We go with the opposite convention.

I'm not sure what the "b" and "bz", or "am" mean.

Often the machine screws are just listed as "m5x12", which would be an M5 fastener (5mm diameter shank) with a 12mm shank length.

Thanks Dave, didn't know about the coma and period.
That will give me a good start.

Pan heads are fine m5*x. The tappered one seem to be the issue.

904svo, thanks for the chart. That answers the letters.
