Can you do both the 924 washer switch and the Jeff and Qarl's wiper delay? Lots of write ups. But I haven't seen both together.

No answer, so i dug some more.

I was concerned that the new 924 switch didn't have an intermittent stop on the switch.

Next stupid question. Does it make a difference to us whether its a G or an H switch?

Takes a special SWF switch NLA. It has a wire running along side of the plug harness. Picture later.

Yea that's correct Mark,I don't think any of the switches pictured will work because they have to have 2 sets of contacts....dunno memory a bit unclear on this,I think the 924 switch is the one because it has that function.
Seem to remember the early Golf switch can be used because it is the same, the beetle switches don't have the extra wires to switch the relay (again from memory).
Hella made an intermitant wiper kit that could be used and I think that my simplify things but not sure if its still made,I liked the idea because it was adjustable.
I do know the 924 switch works as I used it to switch the relay for my electric washer pump.

I was able to get washer function and wiper delay using the stalk from an early 924 along with a VW washer motor a "99" relay along with the extra relay to account for the fact that the original relay is looking for a 12 v signal and the switch goes from ground to nothing when you want intermittent. If that does not make sense let me know.

You want the 924 stalk to get rid of the silly hose barbs and to add the switch function for the intermittent.

You simply wire up the pump to get power from the stalk switch, I recall a red wire. This needs to be fished through the column housing but not really hard.

The original 914 era stalk used a ground signal to the relay to tell the relay not to function. Then in the on position the ground was simply disconnected for a stock 6 second delay (which is a pretty good number really) but those relays are hard to find.

The newer relay expects you to send 12v to it when you want to turn it on - duh. So you wire a relay so that its coil is fed through the ground on the stalk switch, holding the relay active. But you run 12v to the "99" relay when the added relay ground is turned off. This uses the 87a pin, which is the normally closed one. This acts as logic inverter of sorts to turn the "99" relay on, when the added relay is shut off.

Good luck

Has anyone tried this? Not sure how similar the 914 wiper electronics are to Beetles and Ghias.

There's a thread right now over in the Ghia forum on The Samba where it's mentioned. Thought I'd throw it out there in case it's compatible.

Ok, here are the pictures with real SWF switches. In the pictures please note the different number of pins and there location. Note the switch without the wire is made lower than the other one to clear the 75-76 "VW Rabbit" column used in those years. The "G" has all 7 pins and extra wire to supply power to the pump.
