I switched back to a factory air filter on my ML320 after the MAF went out.

I seems the oil charged filters can spread that oil through the air to the MAF. Now... I'm not sure if the T4 MAF is as sensitive as the newer models (mine damn near controlled everything on the car) but it's food for thought. idea.gif

Type 4s have a MAF? I know l-jet has an air flow flapper, but I think oil would only help those smile.gif

yep, the oiled filters cause trouble with the "hot wire" systems
oil from the filter gets on the wire, so the temps it's sensing no longer match with what it should be measuring
because of the off measurements, the computer thinks the engine's getting more or less air than it actually gets and screws up the ignition and fuelmap

Huh, didn't know those wires were that sensitive. I cleaned the MAF on our old 87 subie with a can of carb cleaner. Got it nice and clean, and it seems to still work. I wonder if I did it any harm.
