Hi all,

I have read conflicting info:
Some say that you should not reuse flywheel bolts
Others say to reuse them with some loctite blue and all is good.

Seems obscene that these are $10+ each bolt. It looks like a number of Toyota equivalents are also M10 x 1.25, what I can not find is the length of the Porsche bolts.

Seems like something like these should work if you can get the right length?

Thoughts?

I have never replaced them, I always re use them.

Do use locktight.
They are not torque to yield, and that makes them reusable.

4 or 6 cylinder?

I always re use 4 cylinder

I've heard that later (bigger bore motors) 6 cylinder bolts are reuseable
mixed reports on early 6 bolts... some say they reuse
others say the early bolts are stretch bolts and must be replaced

I always replace my 2.0/6 bolts for safety sake.. (plus red Loctite)

Reuse and flip the "six shooter" gasket over if used only once.

That makes sense. I knew the aluminum crush washer had to be replaced, but it makes sense that you could flip it over. I agree, I'd use the bolts again, nothing special about them.

Our Porsche 962 mechanic said you never reuse flywheel bolts on a 6.

Mine is a 2.0, 4-banger, so sounds like reuse is good. Thanks.

I have used flywheel and head stud bolts a second time on many watercooled VW and on the early BMW's I had ....never an issue.
No Loctite ? not sure about that,it can't hurt.
Hell $10 for 914 flywheel bolts...nothing,check out what the price is for 6 bolt flywheel 911 ones ,its mental.

Cap'n Krusty says, reuse 4cyl bolts, replace 6cyl bolts. Final answer. wink.gif

That's IF you can even remove those %#@&king 12 point bolts on a 6 given that I think red loctite is on some of them. Had a hell of a time getting two of them out that stripped the 12 point head, so tried an ez out which required grinding off the outer rim of the pilot bearing first...Click to view attachment Click to view attachment
Ended up grinding the threads out of a nut and welding it on to the bolt head to get them out....YecccchClick to view attachment
Definitely NOT reusable!

Got to use a torch to release red loctite
A 600ft lb impact for factory installed bolts on a 6 without loctite

Both teqniques are easy and work in seconds/minutes
