I'm pulling apart a mystery engine that was purchased from a junk yard from a car that was set up for carbs but the carbs were long gone. The car had a low pressure fuel pump mounted on the firewall,, The cylinder heads have the mounting for a cylinder head temp sensor but one was not mounted. I'm looking to see if anyone has changed to a aftermarket cam. Can anyone tell me what markings came on the stock 1.7 , 1.8, and 2.0 cams.?

No markings on cam. Part# is on the cam gear.

So if there was 245 cast into the cam is it a possible aftermarket cam?

Yes it probably aftermarket. Some factory cams DO have part numbers on them. Most are not readable though.

A stock cam would have a rivoted on gear, an aftermarket cam would have the gear bolted on. Also I think the original cam gears all have vw logos cast into them?
