1975 914 , badged 2.0 but has a 1.8ltr . anyway of confirming the chassis was a 1.8ltr originally and just rebadged from the vin?

vin data listed doesn't seem to differ between 1.8 and 2.0 , both grouped together on the production line
SirAndy
Neither the VIN nor the chassis number will tell you the original engine size.

As far as i know, only a COA can do that.

If you're looking to buy it, or own it & may get a COA, then you may be able to call the PCNA COA 800 number with the VIN & 2.0L GC case number to ask them to verify if it's matching numbers & a "real 2L" before you buy it.

Then they can look on their microfilm/microfiche/digital copy of the original Kardex build info. card, but will want you to pay for an actual copy of the COA.

Some folks have had success with that approach & exceeding niceness! biggrin.gif

Good Luck! beerchug.gif

A US-spec car would have emissions compliance stickers in the engine bay, some of which list the displacement of the engine fitted to the car. I'm not sure if all cars would have this, but I believe my 74 does.

Isn't there a support for the air filter on the left side of the engine shelf
that is only on 1.8s ?
Does your last reply tell us that you've gotten the answer ?
