I'm wanting to have my door Handels redone , is it possible to take them apart and re chrome them and put them back together or is there a different way of having them done
Thanks Brian/Kate

Brian & Kate -

It depends what your goal for the 914 is - perfectly original concours, nice show & pleasure car, driver, etc.?

They still sell both the original genuine Porsche handles & a very nice repro set for a bit less - & those latter may be less cost + your labor to disassemble & rebuild rechromed ones + shipping to/from (unless you have a local shop doing excellent work), with the genuine ones CW perfect if you're looking for that level for a bit more money.

Also - good rechroming is very hard to get them to do quality parts prep, filling pits & smoothing it at the Copper plate stage(s) like they should, & to do the "real" Copper-Nickle-Chrome Triple-Plate Chroming.

The good concours quality rechroming is expensive for that reason, & so generally reserved for NLA parts - like bumpers, but even then the SS bumpers are a better deal too.

Plus UK & Euro-land is super strict on environmental, so if they're like California here - there may be no or few high quality chrome shops left catering to us car collector folks.

Any local Porsche dealer or parts house should be able to get the originals, & other independent parts sources can get the repros - including the member vendors on here (most of these are here in the US).

Cheers Mates! beerchug.gif

Have you tried The Harmonious Blacksmith?

Avoid the reproduction ones, poor chrome and lock cores may or may not fit.

The repros suck. Find someone with some nice originals, buy them and switch out your lock cores. Sell yours and make a little money back.
