I'm getting rid of the stock vinyl covering on the dash face and would like to just do body-color metal. Thought I'd ask what others have done to deviate from stock, so show us your dash faces.

TIA

I'm sure you've seen this, before the new dash.

I like the body color match, some one posted one of a yellow matching dash, breaks up the black. makes it look newer.

Cool, thanks. Lots of neat variations from stock. I like them! I noticed that all put something over the basic dash frame. I was thinking of just painting the frame body color and not putting anything over it.

Here's a pic of just the frame - the metal cover with vinyl is removed. This would be body color with nothing else added. The other thing I like about this is the face height will be the same across the dash - instead of the radio area being lower.

Thoughts?

Why were/are so many dashboards painted Olympic Blue?

Both of my cars are that way and the one above ^^ looks to be that color too.

Not finished yet, but I used maple veneer.
Had to fill behind a little to get dash face flush with raised areas around switches :

There was a wood option at one point in time, was that a dealer item?

Seams to be a nice kit but I haven't installed it yet.

Wood dash kit.. Was maybe Amco ? Dealer installed option on my car.

Here are the pieces removed from the car.

Dash will definitely stay with the car..... The 914-6 gold leaf
script may go away.... A little sandpaper and re-.varnish

Here's a tip: when you've dismantled the dash, paint the back of the dash white - or another light color. That will make fettling with the electrics behind the dash a lot easier when you've wedged yourself between the pedals and the gear lever.

About the pics: I love the look of the alcantara dash!

You could cover the frame and make it look like this smile.gif , the double curve hump took me two attempts , the second I made a cardboard template wrapped it around trimmed it
then layed it flat , cut the sheet metal & then had a sheet metal ducting place roll it , the same for the face , I took the dash frame to them and had them brake bend the face cover then I attached it with removable screws so I could scribe the radio hole, the glovebox hole & steering column slot , removed it & opened the holes, Bill D.

Lots of cool choices. Thanks for the ideas, pictures, and links. I'm gonna spend some time this weekend fiddling with gauge options first, then see where that takes me.
