My '75 914 2.0 liter was stored for 25 of its 30 years. Consequently it is very - very original. It still has all of its smog equipment intact and operating. It even has the "big brother seatbelt - ignition lockout operational.

I hear a rumor that there was a recall due to fracturing plastic fuel lines in '77. The reason I ask is that I have a fuel smell in my interior. Not just annoying but more than a bit concerning... Hmmm

Anyone know more about the recall? Would Porsche still perform the work all these years after the recall? Anyone have a similar experience with recall work not done?

Appreciate any help...

There was a fuel line replacement recall campaign called "HO", and it is my understanding that if your VIN isn't on record as having been done, they will still perform it today.

it's worth a ph call to your local dealer to see if they'll still do it -- free parts and labor -- but after 30 years,

THE PEOPLE OF 914CLUB HIGHLY RECOMMEND REPLACING ALL FUEL LINES regardless.

Replace the lines. You have a 30 year old car. I am doing it because I know it is the right thing to do.

Get those fuel lines replaced for sure (free if possible). You wouldn't want your crash caused by the rear wheel falling off to turn into a huge fireball.

Thanks guys. The fourth lug bolt has been replaced and actually the wheels have been replaced too. I bought the car at an estate auction with all of the records and even the original window sticker. I was sold new at Sierra Porsche Audi in Riverside. The Western Wheels were a "dealer installed option" Meaning the dealer took off the original Fuchs that were shipped with the car and jacked up the price with some cheap alloys. It also has a dealer installed 8 Track which I will keep I think. I bought a set of Fuchs from a guy in the classifieds and got a spare from a guy named Mueller from Canada also through the classifieds here.
It seems too nice to modify too much and I am really torn on that since I am an autocrosser. I may grab one of Martin Bakers rollers for a race/autocross car.

Yep....any car that has sat that long needs fuel lines, brake lines and a LOT of other stuff replaced.

BTW....those wheels are not stock....they are aftermarket...

The recall campaign is only for the fuel lines in the engine compartment.
I had it done on a 914 in the late 70's.
Just like they said if you want to keep the car replace all the lines including the ones down the center console/tunnel.

Actually, if the sticker doesn't specifically list alloy wheels, it probably came with steel wheels. Dealers made a ton of money on the add ons, so they often ordered them stripped. As others have said, the "HO" campaign applies, but it covers only the rubber lines. If the plastic lines that run through the tunnel and along the firewall are good, leave 'em ............. I had a conversation with Harvey Weideman of Weideman Wheels about the Fuchs and Westerns. It turns out according to him he was the parts manager at Sierra at that time and that all of the 914s that came to Sierra Porsche Audi had Fuchs in '75 and '76. He says that they took them all off and replaced them and sold the Fuchs. Anyway, now mine has Fuchs and the lug bolt that was missing isn't. Now I just need some 8 track tapes... Anyone have some Carly Simon on 8 track??? Cat Stevens??? Come on anyone?

I have been so busy listing/shipping ebay sales, making turn signals, gas caps/handles, splash rings for my upcoming GT tanks, and fixing F'ing 747's I have not touched my car. Did you get your early exchangers yet? One more shot. These wheels are as CW as you can get! They are TO nice for my car, and they cost a "not so small" fortune to reach this state.
