I saw this on a 914 on Ebay that has engine hood lock. Never seen one before because hood is open from the interior which can be locked. Of course, with the top down it is accessible.

Or is it a engine kill switch? Clean looking 76.

Looks like it could be the key switch
for an old style alarm system..
They didn't have remote access alarms back in the day.

I think you are correct! Makes more sense than hood lock. Duh!
