Scroll down this page and find reference to rear main seals, plenty of advice there, appears the Victor Reinz seal is causing issues.
I have personally used a Sabo and Elring brands ,no problems so far.
Pelican ,Autohaus,GPR,there are many others also,do some research.

JT:

I'm going with a Sabo from Bughaus as recommended by 914world after springing a leak on my fresh engine build with a Reinz seal.

This guy says Sabo has a bigger spring. Just thought I'd add it to the post for FYI.

It does have a bigger and tighter spring so that seems to make the difference.

Engine removal is not necessary to change the seal. Just the trans

Has anyone ordered one recently and verified that they are this Sabo brand?

Or has anyone determined that the Elring/Klinger from PP are the black OEM style seals with the larger spring?

I want to order a couple of spares.

Bump

With all of the talk lately about good/bad rear main seals, I thought I would ask:

Are the Elring/Klinger from PP the "good ones" with the black plastic and the larger spring?

Or do I need to find a vendor that sells the Sabo brand?
If so, who sells rear main seals that are guaranteed to be the Sabo brand?

I have my cart from PP loaded ready to check out with the Elring/Klinger, but wanted to be sure.

McMark recommended these to me. They are the Sabo ones. I ordered one back in Jan. My RMS weeps a little bit. I'm going to tackle this after I figure out my carb issue.
