Hi--

Are there part number and duration/timing differences between stock 1.7, .1.8 and 2.0 L cams?

Thanks,

As I have been told buy several mechanics that worked on these when they were new, yes and no.

Officially no there were no changes the 4cyl cam part number stayed the same for all engines from the beginning of production thru the end of production.

But the actual cam profile changed slightly over the years to accommodate emissions requirements but VW/Porsche left the part number the same.

I have no documentation to support this just 30 years of being told.

Thanks for the info. I have a couple of stock cams that may be 1.7, 1.8 or 2.0 L that I plan to send to Web. They're going to degree them, check for differences and add the information to their data base.
