I use the ATV lift the Harbor Freight sells, I have not had any issues, and it has been stable and brings the motor and trans down with out a major arc.

The jack plate from tangerine works great and won't take up any more space in your garage wink.gif. Just put it on your floor jack and you have a super stable platform for removing/reinstalling the motor and trans.

Doesn't the handle get in the way?

We are a 911 shop so no, for us, they work really well. For 914's, not so much.

After reading the feedback on the HF unit, I got the heebie geebies. Once you get it home it might not work. If it works, the handle instantly snaps off. The hydraulics are hair-trigger. And if the hydraulics fail it goes for metal scrap due to no parts and no shop will touch it. I got a table from McMaster Carr. About 25% more surface area. Can lower engine out of car and raise it up to bench-mounted yolk. Around $900, but a fresh engine is pushing $20k these days.

After surfing the HF and other sites, I just ordered a Gladiator wood and steel frame work bench . It holds up to 1500 lbs. More than I need. Also I'm going to have the metal joints welded up vs simply screws for attachment ...so it will be 100% solid.. another task done.
Next thing is to sell some additional parts.
