I have been studying up on 1.8 L-Jet vacuum leaks. Gonna find my demons if it kills me. I started with the oil cap.
For one, it is always a bitch to get off, very tight. It has both the O-ring and the flat seal in tact and flexible.
There was a good bit of what looked like grime in the threads and in the cap. It would not wipe out. I took a pick and had trouble picking it out too. I got the biggest pieces out. Appears to be something burnt.
It does feel like it seats in the filler nicely and it does screw down tight.
I figured I would just get a new one.... But they are tough to find. At least I have not yet found one. Looks like the early style with just a flat seal in them are around.
Are they interchangeable? would an early style guarantee a leak on a late filler?
